Mary A. Hebda KANE Mary Ann Hebda, 97, formerly of 6190 Highland Road, passed away Sunday (December 4, 2016) at the Lutheran Home at Kane. Born March 9, 1919, in Coontown, she was a daughter of the late Nickola and Barbara Balaban Novosel. On October 8, 1949, in Kane, she married Henry A. Hebda who preceded her in death in 1986. During World War II, Mary worked in Eldred for the U.S. Army Corps in ammunition. She cooked and cleaned in several family lumber camps when growing up. She also was a secretary at Novosel Lumber Company and then later for Carl Novosel Industries. She also had worked as the accountant at the former Joseph's in Kane. She served as secretary for the Croatian Federation and was a long-time member of Court Callistus #66 C D of A. She was an avid golfer and also bowled in league for many years. Mary enjoyed gardening and loved being around her family and friends. She was the matriarch of the family. Surviving are a son, Thomas Hebda of Kane; two sisters, Ann Huntsinger of Appleton, Wisconsin and Milly Kocjancic of Kane; and a brother, George Novosel in State College; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, in addition to her husband and parents, by seven brothers, Nick, Thomas, Steve, Frank, John, Joe and Carl Novosel; and a sister, Rose Lundeen. Friends will be received Wednesday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am in the gathering space at St. Callistus Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am with the Rev. Philip Pinczewski, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Callistus Cemetery. The Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
