Age 89, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2016 in ManorCare McMurray while under the care of Bethany Hospice. She was born on March 20, 1927 in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Joseph Turoski and Helen Kellner Turoski. Mrs. Wasko grew up in the Allentown section of Pittsburgh, raised her family in Brentwood, and for the last 28 years lived in Peters Township with her daughter, Elena and son-in-law, Larry. Mrs. Wasko was a graduate of St. George High School and a homemaker who worked at the Brentwood Tax office and, after a career with the IRS, retired to live with her daughter. As a retiree, she traveled extensively and enjoyed sewing, gardening, housework, and, as their beloved "Nana," helping to raise her three grandchildren. On October 1, 1949, she married Alexander Wasko who died on January 12, 1974. Surviving are a daughter, Elena (Larry) Schmitt of Peters Township; a grandson, David Schmitt (Barbara Pschirer) of Bethel Park; a granddaughter, Lauren (Derek) Sitosky of Peters Township; a grandson, Daniel (Colleen) Schmitt of Reading, PA; great-grandchildren: Alexis, Cole and Charlotte; a sister, Theresa McCarthy of Orlando, FL; a brother, George Turowski of Melbourne, FL; and many nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to her husband are a daughter, Joann, who died at the age of six; sisters, Betty and Regina; and brothers, Joseph, Harry, and her twin, Leo. Friends and family are welcome at 2828 Washington Road, McMurray on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Benedict the Abbott Catholic Church on Monday at 9:30 AM.
