Of Mt. Lebanon, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 21, 2016. She was born on December 21, 1922 in McKees Rocks, the daughter of the late Louis and Theresa (Guaragno) Portella. Beloved Wife of the late John P. Surma; Devoted Mother of Dr. Vic (Kathy) Surma and John (Becky) Surma; Loving Grandmother of Katie (Jim Crowell), Brendan, Jack (Julie), and Eric Surma. She was predeceased by her grandson, Victor, and all of her siblings and their spouses: Rose (Mike) Blinky, John (Martha) Portella, Marie (Tony) DeArdo, Evelyn Portella, and Philomena “Babe” (Frank) Fischetti. Ginny was an avid bridge player and familiar face at the Mt. Lebanon track for many years. For all of her adult life, her beautiful voice graced the choir of Our Lady of Grace, where she also devoted her time to the Women’s Guild. She was the office manager for Philips Medical Systems for thirty years. There will be no visitation, and funeral arrangements are private and entrusted to Beinhauer Family Funeral and Cremation Services (724-941-3211).
