Jean Wagner Obituary

Jean Marguerite Wagner, 86, of Port Matilda, passed away very peacefully on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, with her two daughters at her side. She was born on January 1, 1930, in Port Matilda, the daughter of the late Thomas H. Smith, Sr. and Elsie M. Ross Smith. Jean was a 1948 graduate of the Port Matilda High School. She had worked at Steele Store in Port Matilda, right after her graduation from high school. On May 28, 1953, she married John M. Wagner, Sr. who preceded her in death on March 18, 1991, after 38 years of marriage. She was of the Protestant Faith and for many years attended the Martha United Methodist Church. Mrs. Wagner worked for a number of years in Food Services at Penn State in the Warnock Dining Commons. She always cherished the wonderful friendships that she made while working there. She was also an excellent homemaker, as well as an accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed sharing her sewing skills with her many clients who frequently called on her to do sewing projects for them. She also enjoyed crocheting, growing her beautiful flowers and feeding her beloved hummingbirds. She cherished spending time with her family and loved ones, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Wagner is survived by her two daughters, Janie L. (Dennis) Burns, of Milesburg and Donna Burns, of Philipsburg; one son, John M. Wagner, Jr., of Port Matilda; three sisters, Wanda (John) Lehner, of Tyrone, Dorothy Ross, of Deland, Fla. and Janet (James) Snyder, of Bellefonte; two granddaughters, Tawnya (Harry) Breon and Grace Wagner; five grandsons, Michael (Stacy Mann) Burns, Steven (Shannon) Burns, Josh (Amy Jo) Wagner, Jordon (Christi) Wagner and Eryn (Laura) Wagner; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her twin sister, Jane M. Bryan; her two brothers, Thomas H. Smith, Jr. and Samuel C. Smith; her sister-in-law, Arlene L. Smith; and her son-in-law, Michael L. Burns. The family would like to acknowledge the excellent care Jean received while a resident at The Eagle Valley Personal Care Home in Milesburg for the past four months. Family and close friends will be received at the Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, 201 Spring St., Milesburg, on Sunday, November 6, 2016, from 1-2 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Ronald E. Baker officiating. Burial will be in the Williams Cemetery, Huston Township, Centre County. Arrangements are under the direction of The Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, Milesburg.
