John C. Simpson, 66, of Bellefonte, formerly of Stormstown, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. John was born on October 14, 1950, the only child of Herbert L and Alice M. Kelley Simpson. On May 23, 1971, he married the former Barbara Virginia Gray who survives at home. John is also survived by his son, Brent Alan Simpson (Audra) and his daughter, Julie Lynn Smith (Barrett); his five grandchildren, Tyler and Kylie Simpson, Lindsay, Austin and Ryan Smith; and his mother-in-law, Barbara R. Gray, of Bellefonte. John attended Bald Eagle Area High School graduating in 1968, where he was active in many sports. Baseball was his lifelong passion. He received the Burl Flick Baseball award. He played Legion and County League baseball. After graduating he began his employment at Penn State University, retiring as supervisor of printing and copying services. After the death of his father-in-law, John took over the Graystone Farms and Stables, from 1981-2008, managing two farms and a horse stable. John held several jobs throughout his lifetime, in 2008, he worked for Rider Auto until its closing. He had worked at many part-time jobs, including Lykens Market, Blaise Alexander, Stauffer transportation, transporting children, and at The Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home. John was very active in helping community organizations, Coaches vs Cancer; B.J. Wetzler Memorial Golf Tournament; B.J. Wetzler Chicken Bar-B.Q. John coached many Little League and Teener League teams. John also drove the transportation tram for Grange Fair for many years. John enjoyed camping, baseball, softball, and playing on several local teams. He especially loved attending his beloved grandchildren's various events. John was known for his smile and sense of humor. John attended Grays United Methodist Church in Stormstown and currently was attending Faith United Methodist Church in Bellefonte. John was also a member of State College B.P.O.E Lodge #1600. Funeral services for John C. Simpson will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2016, at 12:00 Noon, at Faith United Methodist Church, 512 Hughes St., Bellefonte with Rev. Andrew Morgan, officiating. Family and friends will be received from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 Noon at the church. Interment will be in Grays Cemetery, Stormstown. Memorial contributions made be to B.J. Wetzler Memorial Softball Scholarship through the Bellefonte Education Foundation, P.O. Box 97, Bellefonte, PA 16823. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dean K.
