Ellen Elizabeth Baer, 103, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, November 17, 2016 at her home in Shippensburg, following a period of declining health. Born on July 3, 1913, in Jerome, Idaho, the second daughter of the late Charles Wesley and Kathryn Hannah (Kehrer) Bower. She married Cecil James Baer on October 10, 1936, in Hagerstown, MD. He preceded her in death on February 11, 1967. Ellen was a devoted mother and wife, contributing also to the good of the community, especially to the youth in the area. She was an artist and could do just about anything with her hands. Especially gifted in knitting, tatting, and crocheting, Ellen could simply look at an example and reproduce it exactly, without any use of a pattern. She excelled at all things domestic, was an excellent cook, loved to bake, and enjoyed gardening. Ellen was a member of the Cleversburg United Methodist Church where she taught the ladies Sunday School Class for many years. She is survived by four children, Kathryn R. (Baer) Kline and husband Paul of Mapleton Depot, PA, James Baer and wife Judith of Shippensburg, Hazel L. Baer of Shippensburg, and William J. Baer and wife Karen of Highlands Ranch, CO; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one sister, Barbara A. Harding (widow of the late Robert Harding) of Hughesville, PA; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Ellen was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Mr. Paul Kline, her son-in-law, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mongul Cemetery. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
