Andrew Kolasa Obituary

Andrew W. Kolasa, 95, of State College, formerly of Clarence, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Juniper Village at Brookline in State College. Born on May 30, 1921, he was the son of the late George A. and Anna V. Taras Kolasa. On February 12, 1945, he married Mary M. Cingle, who passed away on August23, 2014. Andrew attended the Clarence School. He was a member of the Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in State College. Andrew joined the US Marine Corp. in 1942 and was honorably discharged on November 15, 1945. While in the service, he earned the rank of CPL and became a Master Sharp Shooter. He was involved in the battles of Saipan and Tinian, Marianas Islands. He was very proud to serve his country. He was a machinist at Cerro Copper and Brass, retiring in 1986 after 30 years of service Andrew was a member of the Clarence American Legion Post #813. He enjoyed being outdoors, reading, listening to books, and playing pinochle. Andrew is survived by his two sons; David A. Kolasa of State College and Kevin M. Kolasa of Milton, DE, two daughters; Linda K Burd of Harvey’s Lake and Maureen S. Kolasa and her husband, Michael Schooley, of Tucker, GA, two grandchildren; Brian Burd and Karen DeMarco, and five great grandchildren. Along with his parents and wife, Andrew was preceded in death by his son in-law, Ray Burd, six brothers, and 5 sisters. Andrew was the last of his generation. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 from 2-4 & 6-8pm with a rosary service at 7:45 at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Snow Shoe. Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 11am at the Queen of Archangel Roman Catholic Parish Church in Clarence with Father Michael Wolfe officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to PAWS, 1401 Trout Rd, State College, PA 16801. Arrangements have been entrusted to Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 106 W. Sycamore St. Snow Shoe.
