Encarnation, Elizabeth M. “Betty”, 86, of Charleston, widow of Dennis J. Encarnation, Jr. entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 11, 2011.
Born in Adams Run, SC, she was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Octavia U. Edmondson. Later moving to the Charleston area, she worked and retired from the Charleston County School District. She was very active in the local and state Parent and Teacher’s Association and Rolling Stone Garden Club until Alzheimer’s took its toll on her health. She also enjoyed good food, flowers and watching birds.
Betty is survived by her children, daughter Patty Baxley and husband Johnnie of Pimlico and son Dennis “Jody” Encarnation and wife Kathryn of Boston, MA. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Luke and David Encarnation, Johnnie Baxley, III and wife Michelle, Cindi Johnson and husband Terry and Sandi Baldwin and husband Doug; five great grandchildren, Madison, Peyton, Shea, Dalton and Halston. She is also survived by four sisters: Jean Rotolo, Joyce Southwell, Dot Campbell and Doris Yeo-Doran; two brothers: Earl and Raymond Edmondson along with numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, Mrs. Encarnation was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Gourdin and three brothers: James, LeGrande and Edgar Edmondson.
The family wishes to thank Solaris Hospice, The Bridge at Charleston and Home Care Assistance for their care and support. Betty will be greatly missed by her family and by those she touched along the way in her lifelong journey.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. in McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Goose Creek Chapel, 869 St. James Avenue. Funeral service will follow at 11:00am and will conclude at the site of burial, Christ Church Episcopal Cemetery Highway 174, Adams Run, SC.
