Mable Scott

Mable Eunice Scott of Abilene passed away Thursday, December 22, 2016. Funeral services will be held on December 27 at 2:00 p.m. in North’s Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange Str. Burial will be at Elmwood Memorial Park of Ten Commandments. Visitation will be Monday, December 26 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in North’s Funeral Home. Mable Eunice Scott was born October 3, 1924, to Virgil and Lou Ellen Osborne Wood, in Granbury, Texas. She and her siblings grew up farming and attended the small country school in Tolar, Texas. Shortly after World War 11, Mable met and married Murrell Eugene Scott on December 1, 1949. They had their first child, Carla Fay, August 30, 1955. Carla suffered from Spina Bifida and passed away in infancy. Mable and Murrell had their second and only other child, Michael Eugene in 1957. Mable was a housewife for several years and she worked in food service for the Abilene School District and at Sears Nursing Home. After retiring, Mable worked from home and for most of her life was a seamstress and was very active sewing, quilting and making crafts for friends and family. Murrell passed away January 22, 1992. Mable enjoyed traveling and went on several tours and cruises to Hawaii, across Europe and numerous locations across the U.S. with family and friends. She loved to vacation in their R.V. and was a loyal Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers fan. Mable was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church. Late in her life, Mable met Hollis Deats. They never married but were loyal and inseparable companions for several years before he passed away. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister; Pauline Mitchell of Stephenville, two brothers; W.S. Wood of Ft. Worth and Cecil Wood of Glen Rose and one half-brother; Roy Parker of Stephenville. She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Michael Eugene and Sheridan Scott, one sister; Frances Bridges of Ft Worth; two grandchildren; Justin Eugene Scott and Mindy Scott of Warner, Robbins, Georgia; Jamie Lynn Scott of Abilene. Two step-grandchildren; Morgan King and Taylor Buck of Abilene. Four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
