February 15, 1960 – December 1, 2012

Joy Dianne Richmond, PhD., loved daughter, aunt, friend, teacher-scholar, director, theatre generalist and historian, died at age 52, on Saturday, December 1, 2012, following a brief illness. Dr. Joy, as she was known to her students at Trinity Valley Community College, generously shared her love of learning and the theatre, her wit, and her empathy for others with them, her colleagues, her family, and her community. She was a loyal daughter, aunt, friend, and fabulous woman who will be sorely missed.

Joy was born on February 15, 1960, in Longview, Texas. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jonas Timothy Richmond, and her maternal and paternal grandparents. She is survived by her mother, Wanda E. Richmond; her father and stepmother Clint and Judith Richmond; her brothers John Douglas Richmond, Mark Clinton Richmond, and Caleb Anthony Richmond; and sisters-in-law Yumiko Richmond, Lisa Ann Richmond, and Debbie Richmond; her beloved nieces and nephews Brandon, Justin, Chad, Darren, Sara, Matthew, Sabrina, Hanna, and Noah Richmond; her aunt and uncle Beverly and John Richmond, and cousins Angela Almonds and Steven Richmond.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Genesis Hospice and her caregivers Louise and Missy Manning for their loving care during the last weeks of her life.

A celebration of Joy’s life will be held 7:00 P M Wednesday, December 12 at the (Athens Little Theatre) Henderson County Performing Arts Center., 400 Gibson Road, Athens, Texas with Rev. Lynette Solomon officiating.
