Services for Dorothy Joy Barker (Shields), 87, of Canton, are scheduled for 11 a.m., Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Bartley Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Mrs. Barker passed away September 17, 2016, in Tyler. She was born September 13, 1929, in Van Zandt County (Oakland Community) to Dowell & Mayme Chambless Shields. She spent all of her life in Canton where she was a member of Oakland Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Bill Barker. Survivors include her son, Dennis Barker & Ilona Kalbreyer of Lewisville; two daughters, Linda Eitson and husband Bakey of Hawkins, Annette Barton and husband Kevin of Chandler; daughter-in-law, Susan Barker of Grand Saline; brother, Jimmy Shields and wife Zura of Canton; six grandchildren, Rhonda Boughton, Rodney Ray Eitson, Renee Schaefer, Amanda Weems, Jessica Simpkins and Shelby Berry; eight great-grandchildren, Brittany, Madison, Nicholas, Brooklynn, Bryce, Maci, Parker and Hayden; one great-grandson on the way; and numerous other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Rodney Ray Eitson, Alan Boughton, Vernon Schaefer, Dustin Weems, Obie Simpkins and Michael Berry III. Memorials may be made to Hospice of East Texas or Oakland Methodist Church. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
