Hal McMichael Obituary

Henry Cleburne “Hal” McMichael, III, 83, of Teague, passed away December 2, 2016 in Fairfield, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 5, 2016 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel with Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating. Hal was born August 13, 1933 in Marlin, Texas to Henry Cleburne McMichael, Jr. and Oma Hayes McMichael. He was a resident of Teague his entire life and graduated from Teague High School, Class of 1950. After high school, he entered Sam Houston University where he earned his Bachelor of Agriculture in 1954. On August 13, 1960, he married his sweetheart and lifelong companion, Linda Lu Wells. Hal had a number of jobs around the Teague area, including being the first employee hired at Leon’s Garage, and later retiring from ARCO Pipeline after working many years as an Engineer. Throughout his life, he was also a cattle rancher, something he thoroughly enjoyed. Hal was a volunteer firefighter for the Teague VFD for 20 years. He was a longtime active member, and Elder, of the Presbyterian Church in Teague. Hal was an honest man that believed in serving the Lord, loving and caring for his family, hard work and treating everyone with respect. He was proud of his family and, like most grandfathers, really enjoyed his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry, Jr. and Oma McMichael; and son, Henry Cleburne McMichael, IV. Hal is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda McMichael of Teague; daughter, Laurinda Thorp and husband, Paul of Waco; grandchildren, Brandon Paul Butler, Aidon McMichael Butler, Henry C. “Hank” McMichael, V. and Trisdan Jake McMichael; sister, Patricia Watson; brother-in-law, James Morris Wells; and a number of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Maggard, Shannon Sims, James Sartor, David Wells, Jerry Pickens, Sheldon Wells, Rusty Beene, Pete Curry, Danny McDonald and Gene Wilson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Teague Volunteer Fire Department or the NRA.
