Calvin Linkous Obituary

Calvin G. Linkous, Sr., of Lacy Lakeview was greeted by the Lord Friday, December 25, 2015. A memorial visitation will be held Tuesday, December 29 from 6-8p.m. at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Dr., Waco.

Calvin was born to Thomas and Emily “Catron” Linkous on March 11, 1924 in Sulphur, OK (which was known as Indian Territory). He was raised in the Riesel, Hallsburg and Axtell area. Calvin was married to Emma Louise Pate Linkous for 54 years. They moved to Lacy Lakeview in 1962 where they raised their 4 children. He graduated early from Axtell with a GED so that he could join the military. He joined the United States Army where he was in the Infantry-Division 301 – INF 94 where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. During this battle he was wounded and received the Purple Heart, Bronze Medal and 3 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Military Achievement Medal, Victory Medal, and 2 Medals from France, one being the Croix De Guerre. Upon his release he then joined the US Navy where he was stationed at a naval shipyard in Hunters Point, CA. He was discharged from the military in 1949. Calvin then went to work for the VA Hospital where he worked nights, and also owned his own business where he mowed yards and cut trees during the day. Calvin retired from the VA Hospital in 1984, but continued working his yard business until 2010 when his nephew Mike Linkous took over.

Calvin looked forward to weekends and holidays where he could get a game of 42 going while laughing and talking about the old days.

Calvin was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; parents, Thomas and Emily; sisters, Elsie, Monie, Willie; brothers, Joe, Burl, Tommy, Bill; and grandson, Luke Carnahan.
