Funeral services for Wilma “Snook” Baker, 87, of Scurry and formerly of Wills Point, will be at 1:00pm, Thursday, June 4, 2009, at Hiett’s LyBrand Chapel in Wills Point with Rev. Don Myers officiating. Interment will follow at White Rose Cemetery. Wilma passed away in Terrell, on June 1, 2009, after a brief illness. Wilma Beatrice Brackeen was born September 9, 1921, in Wills Point, to Forest and Mae Mhoon Brackeen. She grew up in the Alsa Community north of Wills Point, where she attended school. After high school, she moved to Wichita Falls where she lived with her aunt and attended cosmetology school. On February 14, 1939, Wilma became the wife of Chester P. Hampton. They moved to Houston to make their home and raise their family. Later, Wilma moved to Wills Point and on March 25, 1968, she married Bill Baker. She lived in Wills Point until eight years ago, when she moved to Scurry to live with her daughter. Wilma was of the Baptist faith. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all of her family. Along with her parents, Snook is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Baker, son, C.P. Hampton, Jr. and daughter, Sandy Holmgren. She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Gordon and husband, Johnny of Scurry; sister, Betty Dewees of Wills Point; daughter-in-law, Chris Hampton; grandchildren, Joe Hampton, Jimmy Hampton, Karen Penner, Scott Holmgren, Paula Greenroy, Tommy Hampton, Amy Hendley and Billy Hampton; fourteen great-grandchildren; and many other family members. Visitation will be Wednesday evening, 6:00-8:00pm, at the funeral home in Wills Point.
