William Huling Obituary

William “Bill” Crowell Huling 1/18/1952- 1/6/2017 Bill passed on Friday January 6th at the Respite House in Colchester, VT at the age of 64. After a year and a half battle with cancer he passed peacefully with his daughter and granddaughter by his side. Bill was born in Watham, MA to Ray Greene Huling III and Olive Winter Huling. He divided his childhood in Newton during the school year and spent his summers on Rexhame Beach in Marshfield, MA. He would often reminisce about the “Rexhame Rules” where you could wander wherever you wanted to go and you were always looked after by forty sets of parents. Bill moved to Waterville, ME his freshman year of high school and quickly found a community in the hockey team. He was proud to be a member of the winning team for the 1969 state championship. After graduating high school, he went to Colby College before being drafted into the US Army. Upon the completion of his service as an MP at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, he returned to Colby to finish his degree in American Studies. At Colby he meet and married Tish Chase on the day after his graduation from Colby and they were married for 13 years. The call of family brought them back to live year round in Marshfield, MA. Bill started working in retail and sales at Jordan Marsh and then found a new passion of manufacturing when he joined Serta eight years later. Bill went on to work for various companies in the manufacturing sector. He moved from Englander, Ethan Allen Furniture, Essilor, to Copeland furniture. Bill loved supervising manufacturing, creating an efficient process, and most of all he loved the people. He firmly believed in being on the floor and caring about the people more than the product they created.” He spoke often about the people that he worked with and their family stories, trials, and successes. The last year and a half of life found him enjoying simple pleasure: walking on the rail trail, getting eggs benedict at 158 Main in Jeffersonville, or just sitting quietly with his dog. The most pleasure was surviving to meet and love his granddaughter Cora. They were able to spend five months together and he enjoyed reading stories to her, making funny faces at each other, and teaching her how to make raspberries and other funny noises. Bill was survived by his daughter Krista Huling, his son-in-law Nick Johnson and their daughter Cora Huling of Jeffersonville, VT; his son Will Huling of Japan; his brother Skip Huling of Southborough, MA; his sister Sam Huling of Richmond, CA; and his sister Lin Turmail of Natick, MA. In lieu of flowers, please considering making donations to the Lamoille Area Cancer Network 198 Farr Ave. Morrisville, Vermont 05661; the Hope Lodge in Burlington237 East Ave, Burlington, VT 05401; and the McClure Milller VNA Respite House, c/o Visiting Nurse Association, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, VT 05446.
