January 14, 1948 – October 11, 2013

God has plucked another flower from our family’s garden. On Friday, October 11, 2013, Irvin Thomas Coston was called to rest. Irvin was born to the late James Coston, Sr. and Bessie Sarah Coston-Godwin on January 14, 1948 in Belle Haven, Virginia.

He received his formal education in the Accomack County public school system. In 1968, he met and married his late wife, Joyce Ann Holden. This union produced two beautiful children, Amy and Penny. His children were the love of his life.

Irvin was a warm and friendly person. He had a special way about him; he was meek and humble and was always ready to be of service to others.

Irvin left the Shore and moved to Boston, Massachusetts in the late 70’s. He was gainfully employed by De’Cor Upholstery Company for over 30 years and became a master of his trade.

In 2010, Irvin retired and moved back to the Shore, residing in Savageville with his sister Pam until his untimely death. To keep himself occupied, he assisted his brother Alvin with his upholstery business. Also, during his retirement, he cultivated a beautiful garden of fruits and vegetables. He had a magical hand at gardening, for he learned the art of farming at a very young age.

Irving was raised in a Christian home where he was a member of St. Joseph’s AME Church. His parents instilled strong family values in him. During his manhood he accepted Christ as his personal savior, acknowledging that Jesus Christ died on the Cross, was buried and resurrected on the third day. Irvin loved the LORD.

He was pre-deceased by his father, James Coston, Sr., a son, Jason Irvin, Jr., two sisters, Thelma Savage and Francis Strand; and three brothers, Julius, William, and Conway Coston. Those left to mourn are: mother, Bessie Coston-Godwin (Nathan) of Belle Haven, VA; children, Amy, Penny, and Apryl; grandchildren, Diallo, Chancis, Shawan, Jumar, Brittany, Andre, Aaron, Terell, Danielle, Dominique, Jason Irvin, and Devonne; great-grandchildren, Elijah, Amura, Shy`heem, Ah`zeria, Arnijah, Sy`Meer, La`Brazia, Kyasia, Khalil, and Kaleah; brothers, James Coston (Maria) and Alvin Coston of Craddockville, VA; sisters, Mary McDonald of Hyde Park, MA, Doris L. Nock (Horace) of Keller, VA, Barbara Singh of Brooklyn, NY, Pamela Savage of Savageville, VA, Janice Treherne (Amour) of Craddockville, VA, and Deborah Coston, who was in the car with him at his untimely death; GOD is good; one sister-in-law, Patricia Coston of Boston, MA; one son-in-law, Arcee Pyron of Pocomoke, MD; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
