WAYNE FRANKLIN TYLER, SR., affectionately known to family and friends as “Big Wayne”, transitioned from earth to glory on October 30, 2012 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital. He was born on August 18, 1959 to Rose Northam Tyler and the late William Tyler.

Big Wayne was educated in the Accomack County Public schools. In 1980, he graduated from the Eastern Shore Community College as a Certified Welder. He received many other educational certifications during his lifetime.

Wayne was a member of Macedonia A.M.E. Church in Accomac, Virginia. He was the drummer for their Gospel Choir and played every third Sunday. Wayne was very passionate about playing the drums and also singing. He sang with and played the drums for the Hallelujah Gospel Singers. He also played for the Voices of Thunder and the New Sons of Calvary.

Wayne was employed as a Maintenance Supervisor at Perdue Farms in Accomac. He also worked previously with Tyson Foods.

Big Wayne enjoyed NASCAR, football, basketball, wrestling, boxing, and listening to the news. However, his greatest love was beating the drums!

Wayne leaves to cherish loving memories: his mother, Rose Tyler of Accomac, VA; devoted companion, Mildred Williams of Accomac, VA; two sons, Wayne Tyler, Jr. (Kim) of Pocomoke, MD and Terrance Townsend of Accomac, VA; two daughters, Bonita Brown (Julian) of Lithonia, GA and Latisha Kenny (Deshay) of Delmar, DE; two step-sons, Equan Custis and Eric Baker, both of Norfolk, VA; two step-daughters, Cortney Williams of Accomac, VA and Nicole Walker of Lithonia, GA; ten grandchildren, Amiya Mitchum, Jersiyah Tyler, and Julian Brown, Jr., all of Lithonia, GA, Da’shaun Tull of Horntown, VA, Rae Kwon Kenny of Delmar, DE, Shay’La Kenny of Delmar, DE, Ry’kema Smith of Pocomoke, MD, and Imani, Ayanna, and DeAri Williams, all of Accomac, VA; one brother, Myron Strand of Baltimore, MD; two aunts, Irene Allen and Arlene Purnell (Miller), both of Accomac, VA; uncle, George Riley of Lincoln, DE; special friend who was like a brother, Robert Tisdale of Philadelphia, PA; a very close friend, “Man” Walker of Accomac, VA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
