CHATHAM, Rose Lillian Shelton Powell, age 88, of 4433 Chalk Level Rd. Chatham, VA, entered into rest on March 25, 2017 at Danville Regional Medical Center. She was born on August 28, 1928, in Pittsylvania County, the daughter of the late John Willoughby Shelton and the late Musa Kate Shelton Shelton. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Clyde Smith Powell. She was a lifelong member of Sheva Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and was known for her chocolate pies. She was a devoted wife and loved all of her children and grandchildren. She was a sweet lady who loved everyone and will be greatly missed. In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Clyde Smith (Joan) Powell Jr.; two daughters, Gayle Taylor and Jeanette (Johnny) Pressley; three grandchildren, Douglas (Agnes) Powell, Tondea Susan (Randall) Philpott, and Jenna (James) Davis; three great-grandchildren, Kevin (Crystal) Powell, Jack Davis, and Josh Davis; two great-great-grandchildren, Caden Powell and Harper Powell; one sister, Shirley (Lee) Quinn; and two brothers, Phillip (Gloria) Shelton and Joe (Geneatta) Shelton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Glen Calvin Yeatts, Jr.; and two brothers, Jack Shelton and John Shelton, Jr. Funeral services will be conducted at Sheva Church of Christ on Tuesday March 28, 2017 at 11:00 am with Minister Ron Voss and Dr. Johnny Pressley officiating. Burial will follow at Sheva Church of Christ Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Sheva Church of Christ on Monday March 27, 2017 from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm and at other times will be at the residence, 4433 Chalk Level Rd. Chatham, VA. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Sheva Church of Christ building fund.
