Mrs. Katie Geraldine Estridge Lee, age 96, of Scott Hill, entered her heavenly home Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the home of her son with family members by her side. She was the wife of the late William Robert Lee. Mrs. Lee was born July 11, 1920, the daughter of Waylon Lee Estridge and Jessie Kemp Estridge of Middlesex, North Carolina in Nash County. She was a homemaker and brought joy and a big smile to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Called MamMaw by many, she loved to dance, sing and play the harmonica. A strong woman of deep faith, she was a long time member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir sharing her beautiful alto voice and was an active member of the morning circle. She was very talented and kept all family members and others warm with the many quilts, afghans, and baby caps that she made and they were cherished by all. She was also an avid reader, loved to work puzzles, watching sports (especially the church ball team), drawing, painting and bird watching. Most of all, she loved people and was full of life. The matriarch of a large family who adored her, she will be greatly missed. Mrs. Lee is survived by her son, Charles Eugene “Gene” Lee and wife, Vicki of Covington; nine grandchildren, Robert W. Lee, Jr., David Highlands, II, Charles Gregory Lee, Geraldine Jarrell, Paul Eugene Lee, Pamela Catron, Christy L. Lee, Angelia L. Hurt and Katie L. Carroll; twenty great grandchildren; six great -great grandchildren; and one sister, Amelia Dressler and husband, Hollis, of Covington. In addition to her parents, Waylon and Jessie Estridge, and her husband, William Robert Lee, Mrs. Lee was preceded in death by a son, Robert Waylon Lee in 1999;a daughter, Brookie Highlands in 1998 and a sister, Nellie Gray Estridge. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 14, 2016, at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Hollenbeck officiating, assisted by Rev. W. Pembroke Hall. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert W. Lee, Jr., David Highlands, II, Charles Gregory Lee, Paul Eugene Lee, Allen Dressler, W.L. Dressler, Steve Dressler and Neal Dressler. The family will receive friends Friday morning from 10:00 A.M until time of service at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Mountain Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422 or Mt.
