Velmer Harry McDavid – Duffield, VA Velmer Harry McDavid, 71, Duffield, VA passed away, Thursday, October 27, 2016 at his residence. Velmer was born in Scott County, VA on June 1, 1945 and was the son of late Willie Howard and Annie Elizabeth (Miller) McDavid. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Earl, Bill Joe, Ray Harold and Roger Dale McDavid His survivors include his wife, Thelma Jean McDavid, Duffield VA; sons, Tony Edward McDavid and wife, Margaret, Ft. Blackmore, VA, Gary Wayne McDavid and wife, Rebecca, Hiltons, VA, Dustin Wayne McDavid and wife, Jennifer, Ft. Blackmore, VA; grandchildren, Brook McDavid, Nathan McDavid, Cody McDavid, and Rickey Rhoton; great grandchildren, Andrew and Jake McDavid, Chloe McDavid, and Madison Rhoton; sisters, Wilma Graham, Duffield, VA, Gay Snavely, Ft. Blackmore, and Helen Williams, Duffield, VA; along with several nieces, and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Denny Hass officiating. Music will be provided by Kerns Sister. Military Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p. m., Sunday, October 30, 2016 at the McDavid Cemetery in Bishoptown Community by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA, assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Honor Guard. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Gate City Funeral Home.
