Plina O’quinn Deel
Haysi, VA - Plina Deel, age 83, of Doe Branch, passed away Friday, December 10, 2010 at her residence. Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Rufus and Lettie Blankenship O’quinn. She was a homemaker and had worked with the first Headstart Program in Dickenson County and Newberry Grocery, and was a member of Tivis Old Regular Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Sue Rice, son-in-law, Barry Rice, grandson, B.J. Rice, a granddaughter, Jennifer Rose, daughter-in-law, Mary Belle Deel, brothers, Frank, James, Jesse, Daniel, Eugene, and Cleal O’quinn, step-mother, Polly McClanahan,and sister-in-law, Wilma.
Survivors include her husband, Roy Deel, two daughters, Kathy (Carter) Harrison of Clinchco, VA and Cindy (Denver) Stiltner of Haysi, two sons, Jimmy (Debbie) Deel and Roger Deel both of Haysi, sisters, Charlotte (George) Rose and Fern (Bill) Rose both of Clintwood, VA, and Patty (Goldie) Baber of Crozet, VA. brothers, Lawrence (Dollie) O’quinn of Haysi, Newton (Lois) O’quinn of Abingdon, VA and Ted (Loetta) O’quinn of FL, 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Sunday, December 12, 2010 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Ralph Mullins, Jerry Overstreet, Rick Mullins, and Roger Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in the Blankensphip Cemetery, Haysi. Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends after 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 11 where an evening service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
