Mrs. Anna Ruth Hess Richardson, age 79, of the Pine Creek section of Swords Creek, Virginia, passed away Thursday (December 22, 2016) at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, Virginia due to complications of pancreatic cancer. Born October 14, 1937 in Russell County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Burgess and Agnes Boyd Hess. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a member of Pine Creek Holiness Church. Due to her love for the Lord and singing, Ruth had a radio ministry on WGTH radio for many years. She was known as a prayer warrior for many, many people. She loved people and never met a stranger. Ruth was employed for many years at Eastern Isles in Richlands and was an accomplished seamstress. She loved to garden, working in her flowers, but most of all spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul Hess, Jack Hess, Jerry Hess, and Daryel Hess. Survivors include her husband of sixty-two years, Robert F. Richardson; one son, Glenn Richardson and wife, Glenna of Vansant; two daughters, Joann Mitchell and husband, Tim of Hayters Gap and Sandra Sparks and husband, Gary of Swords Creek; three grandsons, Carlos Richardson and wife, Carla of Tazewell, Christopher Richardson and wife, Bobbie of Newport News, and Jason Sparks and wife, Allison of Cedar Bluff; four great-grandchildren, Averie and Maddox Richardson of Tazewell, Breanna and Logan Richardson of Newport News; one brother, Benton Hess and wife, Joann of Abingdon; four sisters, Billie Jean Horton of Claypool Hill, Faye Richardson and husband, Olbert of Richlands, Peggy Rose and husband, Donald of Raven, and Janice Jessie and husband, Roger of Christiansburg; a host of nieces and nephews also survive. The family wishes to extend special thanks to, Dr. Michel Bidros, oncologist, Dr. Marcus Brown, oncologist, Chad Ashby, director of oncology, and all the nurses and staff on the 4th and 5th floors of Clinch Valley Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday in the Pine Creek Holiness Church at Swords Creek, Virginia with Rev. Jim Richardson and Bro. J.P. Richardson officiating. Interment will follow in the Richardson Cemetery at Swords Creek, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Carlos Richardson, Christopher Richardson, Jason Sparks, Brian Hess, Raleigh Whited, Brian McGraw, and Keith Richardson. The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Monday, where an evening song service at 7:00 PM with Rev. Dennis White officiating.
