Mr. Carl B. “Pete” Smith, Jr., age 83, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Saturday (November 5, 2016) in a Bristol, Tennessee hospital. Born March 1, 1933 in Russell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Carl B. Smith, Sr. and Edith Rasnake Smith. A lifelong resident of the area, he attended Weaver’s Creek Baptist Church. An employee of Norfolk & Western Railroad, he had retired while holding the position of conductor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vanda Smith, one son, Gerald B. Smith, and one brother William B. Smith. Survivors include one son, Bro. Richard B. Smith and wife, Janie of Cleveland, Virginia; two daughters, Vicki Culbert and husband, Eulan of Arkansas and Pamela Smith; two brothers, Jack B. Smith of Ohio and Joe B. Smith of Oklahoma; four sisters, Iva Reynolds and husband, Jack of Oklahoma, Nellie Fay Combs of Ohio, Sue Shields of Bristol, Virginia, and Dana Musick and husband, Robert of Cleveland, Virginia; five grandsons, Shannon B. Smith of wife, Gina, Malachi B. Smith and wife, Whitney, Caleb B. Smith and wife, Tabatha, Isaiah B. Smith, and Lorne Bass and wife, Abby; two granddaughters, Dusty King and Telisa Smallen; fourteen great-grandchildren, Jaron B. Smith, Seth B. Smith, Jude B. Smith, Joah B. Smith, Holly Smith, Anthony King, Leah King, Destiny Smallen, Dillion Smallen, David Smallen, Breanna Smallen, Ava Bass, Ariel Bass, and Ania Ball; and one great-great-grandchild, Bronxton also survives. Private graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday at Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon, Virginia with Bro. Richard B. Smith officiating. Family wishing to attend the service are asked to assemble at the Honaker Funeral Home by 1:30 PM to go in processions. Interment will follow. Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
