Doris Henderson Barrack died peacefully at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center on Monday, November 14th in Elizabeth City, NC at the age of 88. Doris is survived by her daughters Lucy Barrack Booher of Jacksonville, NC, Beverley Barrack White of Edenton, NC; son Russell Franklin Barrack, Jr. of Suffolk, VA; son in-law Thomas Raymond Nichols of Newport News, VA; five grandchildren, Kevin Booher and wife Lisa of Jacksonville, NC, Lisa Nichols of Newport News, VA, Jennifer Booher of Wilmington, NC, Brian White and wife Casey of Edenton, NC and Chad White and wife Morgan of Elizabeth City, NC; four great granddaughters, Nicole and Amber Skeen of Jacksonville, NC and Mackenzie and Alexis White of Edenton, NC; two sisters Shirley Walton of White Stone, VA and Jean Robbins of Chesapeake, VA. She also had her “special friends” Buddy, Wally, Rico and the late Thomas the cat, Taco and Angel. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Russell Franklin Barrack, Sr.; her daughter Wanda Barrack Nichols; her parents Roy L. Henderson Sr. and wife Lucy; her sister Irene Lewis and her brother Roy Henderson, Jr. Doris was born on December 15th, 1927 in Palmer, VA. She graduated from White Stone High School in 1945 and married her high school sweetheart in 1946. She was a dedicated homemaker and later worked at several retail stores to keep herself active. Her children remember her as a kind and gentle mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals, live life to the fullest and eat dessert first. She always had a kind word and looked for the best in everyone. She enjoyed making those around her laugh with her witty comments and storytelling. She was an active and dedicated member of the White Stone Church of Nazarene and often volunteered at the clothes closet. Visitation will be on Friday, November 18th from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. with the funeral service scheduled for Saturday, November 19th at 11:00 a.m. Both will be held at the Currie Funeral Home, 116 East Church Street, Kilmarnock, VA. Burial will follow at the Irvington Baptist Church in Irvington, VA. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Doris's life.
