William Isaac Holmes, 84, of the Corn Valley section of Honaker, Virginia, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2016. Born in Russell County, Va., on November 30, 1931, he was a son of the late Jeff and Maxie Mitchell Holmes. A lifelong farmer, he was employed by Stuart Land and Cattle Company for 56 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James "Huff" Holmes; grandson, Nathan Holmes; sister, Donia Hess and brother-in-law, Fitzhugh Helton.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary E. (Tootsie) Holmes; children, Richard Holmes and wife Kathy, William David Holmes and wife Tammy, Roger Holmes and wife Charlene, Judy Boardwine and husband Phillip and Chris Holmes and wife Ami; eleven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Tom Holmes, Glen "Bob" (Vada) Holmes, Herbert (Margaret) Holmes, Henry (Inga) Holmes, Jeff (Opal) Holmes, Jr. and James (Donna) Holmes; sisters, Betty Jean Helton, Sue (Charley) Poston, Margaret (Claude) Holloway and Brenda (Randy) Hiles and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Pallbearers will be Michael Holmes, Jason Holmes, David Holmes II, Jordan Phillips, Dylan Johnson, Dawson Reedy, Joseph Boardwine, and Daniel Boardwine.

Grandchildren and great-grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at 7 p.m. in the Owens Funeral Service chapel with Rev. Larry Robinson officiating.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2016, at Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon.
