Gerald L. “Gerry” Hood, 89, died at Grays Harbor Community Hospital, Aberdeen, Thursday, February 23, 2017. After graduating from Weatherwax High School in 1943, he served in the US Navy, US Army and the US Coast Guard. Gerry worked at the Bureau of Commercial Fisheries and NOAA in Washington, DC and Miami, FL, serving as the skipper of research vessels. Earning a Master’s Captain license he circumnavigated the world. He had lived in the former Yugoslavia, Phuket, Thailand and Singapore before settling back in Aberdeen in 2009. Private inurnment will take place in Fern Hill Cemetery, Aberdeen.
