Amelia Armitage Obituary

Amelia Fae Armitage passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at her home in Ocean Shores. She was 77. Amelia was born on March 6, 1939 to Ralph and Nona (Sanks) Collins in Vancouver, WA. They then moved to Moyie Springs, ID where she attended Curly Creek and Buckhorn elementary schools. She graduated from St. Maries High School in St Maries, ID in 1957. After high school Amy put her education aside when she met Charles Frederick (Rick) Pratt. They wed November 1, 1958 beginning a life of adventure with the Navy. Together they traveled all over the U.S. before Chief Petty Officer Rick’s retirement. Rick passed in 1980. Amy married Doug Armitage on February 14, 1981. They were later divorced. Amy attended the University of Idaho where she obtained her BS in 1987 and then her Masters in 1991. Upon graduation, she worked in the educational and human services fields, taught ESL, and was an English and Spanish Professor. She also was employed with the Work First Program. Amy was involved in many clubs and was voted 2014 Volunteer of the Year in Colville, WA. She was part of Chamber of Commerce and kept an interest in women’s rights, politics, the environment, the arts and foreign cultures. Amy enjoyed nature from mountain tops to the ocean, beachcombing and collecting rocks. Amy is survived by her daughter Terry (Randal) Hermann of Lewiston, ID; brother Conrad Collins of Clarkston, WA; sisters Phyllis Collins (Roy Bly) of Lewiston, ID and Caroline (Bruce) Kenyon of Kansas City, MO. She is also survived by 2 granddaughters, Rebecca and Shanna and one great granddaughter Emma, many nieces, nephews and cousins as well as her 3 dogs. She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Nona Collins; Husband Rick Pratt; son Edmond Pratt, and brother Richard Collins. Amy’s family is grateful for all the support shown by friends, family and the community of Ocean Shores. Information regarding a Celebration of Life will be announced in the spring.
