<p>Mr. John Elbert Rhoades, age 72, a resident of 109 Dayton Boulevard in Belington, departed this life Tuesday March 1, 2016 at his residence, following a lengthy battle with cancer.</p><p><br></p><p>He was born January 21, 1944, in Philippi, West Virginia, a son of the late Curtis and Madge (Golden) Rhoades. </p><p><br></p><p>He is survived by one son; J.L. Rhoades and wife Kelly of Belington, four grandchildren; Todd Rhoades and wife Charity, Philip Wiseman, Adam Wiseman, and Matthew Wiseman and wife Devon, and three sisters, also surviving are five great grand-grandchildren; Dakota and Aubree Rhoades, Logan and Dylan Wiseman, and Annaliese Wiseman, and several nieces and nephews.</p><p><br></p><p>In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister; Sara Harris.</p><p><br></p><p>John graduated from Belington High School in 1961. He worked as a welder/mechanic at the Fort Martin Power Station, from which he retired. John was an avid West Virginia Moutaineer fan, enjoyed Nascar racing and in his healthier days enjoyed hunting and fishing. He liked his Sunday mornings at Ryan’s Service Station and enjoyed setting around his fire in the evenings. John was a genuine, kind hearted man who never met a stranger. He was a member of the Union Masonic Lodge #4 AF &amp; AM of Morgantown and former member of the Belington Masonic Lodge #125 AF &amp; AM, where he was a past Master of the lodge and been faithfully attending for the past several years. John was also a member of the Tygart Valley Lodge #39 Royal Arch Masons. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.</p><p><br></p><p>Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 6pm to 9pm on Saturday March 5, 2016 and again on Sunday March 6, 2016 from 8am – 2pm the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Pastor Scott Lester officiating. Interment will follow in the Fraternal Cemetery near Belington where the Masonic Burial Ritual will be conducted by the Belington Masonic Lodge #125 AF&amp;AM. In lieu of flowers the family asks memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society P.O. Box 22478 Oklahoma City, OK 73123. The Talbott Funeral Home in Belington is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. John Elbert Rhoades. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.talbottfuneralhome.com </p><p><br></p>
