Dorothy Sinsel

Dorothy (Watkins) Sinsel, age 94, resident of Wallace B. Murphy Nursing Care Facility (formally of Brownlow Avenue) Grafton, WV passed away Sunday, December 04, 2016 at the Grafton City Hospital. She was born November 23, 1922 in Independence, a daughter of the late John W. and Bessie Lee (Weaver) Watkins. Dorothy attended a one room school at Laurel Run, graduating in 1936 from the 8th grade. On July 22, 1944, she married Carl Brooks Sinsel, who preceded her in death on May 30, 1985. Together they worked and maintained a 224 acre farm in the Oak Grove Community until they moved to Grafton. She worked at Hazel Atlas for many years, Musgrove’s Wholesale Grocery, and at Greene’s Plaza Foodland as a cashier. Mrs. Sinsel was a loving mother and “Mam-Mam” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She liked to sew, crochet, clean windows, attend Oak Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member for over 70 years, and was involved in Women’s Mission Society, Vacation Bible School, Sunday School teacher, and the choir. She is survived by one daughter, Marie Martin and husband Lonnie, of Independence; two grandchildren, Charles D. “Chuck” Saffle and wife Melanie, of Newburg and Lora Lee “Lorie” Stevens and husband Donnie, of Independence; five great-grandchildren, Carson Brooks and Courtney Brett Saffle, and Gracie Carlin, Mason Blake, and Hannah Marie Stevens; and also several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by five brothers, Johnny Watkins, Leo Watkins, Odford Watkins, Carl Watkins, James Watkins , and six sisters, Elsie Sheets, Pauline Stephens, Irene Trickett, Virginia Garlow, Betty Jacobs, and Louise Boylen. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford funeral home in Grafton on Wednesday, December 7th from 3:00-8:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour on Thursday. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ronald G. Ford and Pastor Craig Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Independence.
