Mary Dempsey Obituary

Mary A. (Hines) Dempsey, age 79 of Harman Avenue, Grafton, WV passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at her residence. She was born October 16, 1937 in Independence, WV a daughter of the late Doctor Franklin “Doc” Hines and Ethel Mae (Reese) Hines. She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, William Lee “Bill” Dempsey; two sons, Jack D. Dempsey and wife, Lisa of Glen Mills, PA and Brian L. Dempsey and wife, Penny of West Jefferson, OH; ten grandchildren, Staci Dempsey, Emili Dempsey, Jennifer Dempsey, Joel C. Dempsey, Lillianna Dempsey, Natilie Dempsey, Gabrielle Germer, Elizabeth Germer, Keith Urbanik, and Sarah Knox; four great-grandchildren, Olivia Dempsey, Monroe Palmer, Caylyn Knox, and Matthew Ware; three sisters, Priscilla Hines Bastin, Ruth Hines Schulte, and Dorothy Hines Smith; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by two brothers, Immanuel “Joe” Hines and Jeremiah “Jerry” Hines and one sister, Martha Flanagan. Mary graduated from Grafton High School with the Class of 1957. She was a member of the Blueville United Methodist Church where she served on many boards and helped with feeding the homeless. She also served on the Election Board for many years. The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton on Friday, September 2, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour on Saturday. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. David Spence and Pastor John H. Flynn officiating. Interment will follow at the Bluemont Cemetery in Grafton.
