Charles Vannatter

Charles Ray Vannatter, 67 of Oak Hill, gained his wings on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley after a long battle with cancer. Born on August 11, 1949 in Oak Hill to Nancy King Lighter of Hinton and the late Carlos Vannatter. Charles was a graduate of Collins High School and then joined the United States Navy where he served as a Navy Corpsman for 4 years. He was united in holy matrimony to Delma Waddell Vannatter on April 28, 1998 in Pearisburg, VA. He retired from Food Lion of Sophia as a department manager. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by grandparents, George and Dolly Webb. In addition with his mother, Nancy, he is survived by his loving wife whom never left his side, Delma Waddell Vannatter of Oak Hill; sisters, Gail Howard and husband Dwayne of Martinsburg, WV, Becky Greenaway of Hinton; son, Scotty James and wife Shellie of Beckwith; daughter, Carolyn Perry Wagner of Beckley; step son, Paul Tredway and wife Rhonda of Fayetteville; step daughters, Evelyn Tucker and husband Bill of Oak Hill, Rebecca Simcox and companion Jason Hiser of Oak Hill; grandchildren, Levi and Brianna James, Erica and Jimmy Wayne, Andrew Smith, Nicholas Forren, Lexi Tucker, Matt Tucker, Tony and Hayleigh Tredway, and Sam and Seth Buckland; great grandchildren, Leyton and Zaiden Smith; also his furbaby, Toby, survive him. Services for Charles will be conducted at 2pm Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Oak Hill with interment following at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens also in Oak Hill. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Visitation will be held from 12-2pm on Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers donations of sympathy may be made to Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive Beckley, WV 25801. Envelopes will be available by the register book also.
