Lydia Mae “Peggy” Hardesty, 88, of Shinnston, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 after a long battle with an extended illness at the United Hospital Center. Peggy was born in Monongah on January 5, 1928, the daughter of the late William and Margaret Moore. She spent 61 beautiful years married to James Stanley “Bub” Hardesty, who preceded her in death on January 10, 2008. They had one daughter, Carolyn Sue Hardesty Ellis who survives with her husband, Anthony Ellis. Also surviving are granddaughters, Melissa Minigh and husband Scott, Antoinette Casto and husband Christopher, four great grandchildren, Karlie and Stephen Minigh, Anna and Claire Casto. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Frank Moore, and one sister, Billy Dove Fortney. Peggy loved all of her grandchildren and they were an integral part of her life. She attended all of their functions from school plays to high school graduations. While managing the Sunset Ellis Flea Market, she was the main attraction every weekend along with “Mamaw’s” famous peanut butter fudge. She always had a beaming smile on her face that would brighten everyone’s day. She lived a long, happy life with family and friends close at hand. Her heart was full of God and she will be sorely missed by all. The family will receive friends at the Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St., Shinnston from 4pm-8pm, Thursday and 9am-8-pm, Friday. Funeral services will be held at 1pm, Saturday, with Pastor Arlie Parrish officiating. Entombment will follow at the Shinnston Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the West Virginia flood victims at the funeral home in her honor.
