Kenneth Sayre Weston, West Virginia Obituary

Kenneth Sayre

Kenneth Kasper Sayre, 90, of Weston peacefully passed away on Monday, October 3, 2016 at his home following an extended illness. He was born in Gilmer County on December 27, 1925: son of the late Murry H. and Ruby M. (Stansberry) Sayre. On June 26, 1950, he married Marjorie F. (Mace) Sayre, who preceded him in death in January of 2004. Ken and Marge had a son, Randall Lee Sayre, born February 24, 1955, which they lost on March 26, 1973. Kenneth is survived by one brother: Murry “Dean” Sayre of Cleveland, OH, two sister-in-laws: Elaine (Riley) Sayre of Morgantown and Lakie McPherson of Raleigh, NC and ten nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind special family members: Steve, Sara, Hannah, Leah and Issac Stankus of Buckhanon and Rob, Lisa, Drew, Nic and Will Kuhn. In addition to his parents and wife, Marjorie, Kenneth was preceded in death by three brothers: Nile, James and Edwin Sayre and two sisters: Loretta and Betty Sayre. Mr. Sayre was a signalman with the United States Navy in the Pacific serving on the USS LST 874 from March 9, 1944 until June 16, 1946. Upon returning from the Navy, he married Marge and he and Marge helped run Mace Family Grocery Store in downtown Weston for many years and then purchased the IGA Grocery Store in Glenville, running it until their retirement. After which they traveled to every state in the United States except Hawaii. Kenneth was member of Deerfield Country Club for 31 years where he and Marge each joined at 59 years old. He enjoyed golf tremendously, having participated in the Men’s League until the last several months. He enjoyed golfing at Deerfield where he was long standing member and remembered fondly his hole-in-one on #9 which he joked only took “30 years to make.” Kenneth attended the Tallmansville Baptist Church in Buckhannon. Family and friends will gather at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Thursday, October 6, 2016 from 5-8 p.m. Graveside services will be held on Friday at 9:30 a.m. from Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew, WV. Full military honors will be conducted by the US Navy and the Lewis County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Tallmansville Baptist Church 42 Jenleigh Drive Buckhannon, WV 26201.
