Reuben S. Demske Obituary

Reuben S. Demske, 92, of Pleasant Prairie, died on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Hospice Alliance Hospice House with his wife and daughters at his side. Born in Kenosha on July 10, 1924, he was the son of the late Stanley and Laura (Leiting) Demske. He graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School in 1943. Reuben went into the armed service in April of 1943. He was a Staff Sergeant with the 14th Army Air Force 314th bomb group with the Flying Tigers in China. He received two Presidential Citations, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, three air medals, and an Asiatic Pacific ribbon with seven bronze stars. He was discharged in September of 1945. After discharge from the service, he graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering. He managed Buehler Meat Markets in the mid-west. He owned and operated Reuben’s Meat Market in Racine until his retirement on June 5, 1986. Reuben was a lifetime member of VFW Post 1865 and a former member of the Moose Lodge. He was fortunate to take part of the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight, along with his daughter Karen, in September of 2013. It was a most memorable experience for him. He also enjoyed dancing, spending time with friends, and watching the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. He loved painting flowers and scenes, which won him many awards for his art work. On March 2, 1946, he married Marian Cox. She preceded him in death on January 17, 1993. On October 15, 1994, he married Judith Thornberg. Surviving are his wife, Judith; two daughters, Karen (Louis) Rannow of Mount Pleasant, and Lynn (Richard) Brink of Forney, TX; a brother, Stanley (Nancy) Demske of Kenosha; two step-children, Laurie (John) Celebre of Salem, and Brad Thornberg of Kenosha; sister-in-law, Sharon Dinges of Merrill, WI; five grandchildren, Kurt (Jennifer) Theriault of Chaska, MN, Terri (David) Soutor of Minnetonka, MN, Ashlee (Kory Tharp) Brink of Plano, TX, and Justin Brink and Matt Brink, both of Forney, TX; three great-grandchildren, Adam Reden and Jack and Avery Theriault; four step grandchildren, Stephanie (Nick) Torcivia, Josh Marchese, Tony (Ashley) Rannow, and Becky Rannow; five step great-grandchildren, Addison Torcivia, Ethan, Amelia, and Jacob Marchese, and Saige and Alex Rannow. He was preceded in death by a step-son, Scott Thornberg. Reuben was a kind and gentle man with a heart of gold. He will be sadly missed by those he left behind. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 1st, at Proko Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services at 11:30 a.m. with full military honors to follow. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be greatly appreciated.
