Bernard Check

Bernard H. Check, 83, Rothschild, died March 24, 2017, at his home. He was born on March 8, 1934, the son of the late Barney and Regina (Omernik) Check. He married Patricia Kurzynski on January 29, 1955 at St. Peters Catholic Church, Stevens Point. She survives. Bernard worked on the family farm until serving in the U.S. Army for two years in Korea as a Military Police Officer. Upon returning he began a 20 plus year career in law enforcement, 16 of the latter years as Chief of the Rothschild Police Department. Bernard also drove large trucks for L & S Electric. He also was an independent logger, which provided him his own company, as well as remaining an enjoyable hobby up until his passing. Bernard was an avid hunter and loved taking his family on numerous fishing trips into Canada and the Boundary Water area. He enjoyed many family get togethers as well as spending cherished time alone with his wife. Bernard was a member of Good News Baptist Church in Mosinee for many years where he was proudly baptized among the many wonderful Christians who treated him so kindly there. Bernard had unwavering faith in the Lord, sharing and living his beliefs with his wife and each of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He and his wife recently celebrated 62 years of being wonderfully married. Bernard spoke daily of a much-anticipated day when he would finally meet the Lord face to face. He will be missed deeply but wanted everyone to rejoice, as he was confidant knowing the wonderfully perfect life that was waiting for him. Survivors, besides his wife Patricia, include four children; Karen (James) Bradbury, Chris (Reyne’) Check, Curt Check, Rothschild, Kelly (Art) Kalb, eight grandchildren; Justin Steckbauer, Kimberly (Ethan) Gilray, Stephanie (Andrew) Burke, Brittany (Eric) Stoller, Ryan Check, Cheyenne, Colt and Clay Kalb, two great grandchildren; Lillian Stoller and Joel Gilray, three brothers; Nick, Andy and Wally Check, and one sister; Grace Pliska. Bernard was preceded in death by; one infant daughter, one granddaughter, Elizabeth, three brothers; Henry, Thomas and Joseph, and five sisters; Veronica, Josephine, Theresa, Elizabeth and Mary. Services will be at 11:00 am, Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at Good News Baptist Church, Mosinee. The Rev. Jon Payne will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until time of services all at the church. Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee is assisting the family with arrangements.
