Ethelyn Hitchings Richards September 3, 2009 Ethelyn Hitchings Richards, 89, passed away comfortably in her home, in Chittenango after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Ethelyn was born April 7, 1920 in Onondaga and was raised on Hitchings Apple Orchard. She worked for Madison Mutual Insurance Company for 39 years. Her husband, of 45 years, Harold Richards, her son, Tom, her brother, Ward and her sister, Rita predecease her. Ethelyn will forever be remembered by her devoted children Robert and his wife Claire and Roxane and her husband Lin; her daughter-in-law, Cathe; her grandchildren, that she held most dear, Tara, Robin, Christina, Jennifer and Tomichelle, also her treasured great-grandchildren Richie, Emily, Ashley, Haley and McKenna; her sister, Norma Hipkens and her beloved friend, Alta Vero, along with countless other family and friends whom were blessed to have known her. Ethelyn was a pilot along with her husband Harold Richards and her two sons Robert and Tom Richards. Ethelyn was a long time member of the Chittenango Garden Club and volunteer for the Chittenango Erie Canal Museum. She touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity and maintained her trademark witty sense of humor till the very end. She will be missed beyond words. Services and burial will be private in Oakwood Cemetery, Chittenango. The family requests, that if desired donations can be made to Hospice of CNY.
