Mary Jean (Bates) Levitsky passed away on Monday, February 22, 2010 at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Jean was born in Springfield on December 4, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (McCormack) Bates. Jean was predeceased by her loving husband William E. Levitsky, four brothers, Joseph, Richard, Paul, and Harvey Bates. Three sisters, Blanche Bongiorni, Margaret Tryba, and Helen Santamaria, who passed away with Jean on Monday, February 22, 2010. Jean is survived by her sister, Elizabeth O'Brien of West Springfield, as well as several nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. Jean enjoyed time at the beach with family, traveling the world with her husband, planting flowers in her back yard, reading, music, and bird watching. Relatives and friends may call at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St. Rockville, CT, on Monday, March 1, 2010, from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon. A funeral service will follow at 12 noon. Burial will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery, Vernon, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ellington High School Scholarship Fund, 37 Maple St., Ellington, CT, 06029.
