Ruby Mock Aven, age 95, a resident of the Green Spring Community of Washington County, Virginia passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2009 in the Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was born in Norfolk, Virginia the daughter of the late James Walter Mock and Ada Smith Mock. She had resided in the Washington County, Virginia area for 75 years. She was a graduate of Emory & Henry College and was a former Teacher in the Washington County School System where she retired after 37 years of service. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband T.J. Aven in 1971 and one grandson, James Walter Aven. Survivors include her son, Tommy Aven and wife, Helena of Gum Spring, Virginia; two grandchildren, Thomas Walter Aven and wife, Toni of Maryland and Joan Marie Petrucci and husband, Tony of South Carolina. A Celebration of Life Service for Ruby Mock Aven will be conducted at 7:30 P.M. Saturday, January 31, 2009 in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Tony Salfi officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 P.M. until service time on Saturday evening. Private Interment will be in the Green Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Green Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund c/o Rita Reynolds, 21157 Storybook Lane, Abingdon, Virginia 24211 in memory of Ruby Mock Aven.
