Obituary for John Lewis Hamblin, Jr.

John Lewis Hamblin, Jr., age 92, passed away courageously after a prolonged decline on October 22, 2009, at home with his family.
A life long Milford resident, he was born on December 12, 1916, son of the late John L. and Saide Waters Hamblin, Sr. Graduating from the State Trade School in Bridgeport, he joined Bridgeport Brass as a toolmaker. Soon after he joined the U.S. Army, proudly serving during WWII. He worked for Forsberg Manufacturing in the 1950's " 60’s and helped invent the first electric scroll saw. He was employed at Milford Rivet as a tool maker, retiring at 84. He ushered for the Golden Hill United Methodist Church in Bridgeport and was actively involved in Boy Scouts for many years. He enjoyed chopping wood, hiking, trains, opera, and photography. He climbed Mount Washington many times, last time at 77 with his son and granddaughter. He chronicled his family’s life in movies and pictures. He was an exceptionally wonderful and giving father, grandfather and uncle. Mr. Hamblin is survived by his sons Richard of Williamstown, MA, John and David both of Milford, daughters Sarah Fabish and Nancy Petersen both of Milford, eldest brother Jesse James Hamblin Sr of Milford, eight grandchildren (Brian, Andrew, Jean, Leah, Amy, Seth, Sawyer and Brittany) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was like a second father to the Griffin family. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his wife Sarah Cable Hamblin, brothers Lester, Philo, Myron, and sisters Edith and Gladys.
A Graveside service will be held on Monday, October 26, 2009 at Kings Highway Cemetery at 11am. Donations can be made in memory of John L. Hamblin to The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven's Healthy Start/Male Involvement Endowment Fund, 70 Audubon Street, New Haven, Ct 06510
