Bessie "Alice” Snyder, 93, of Lebanon, passed away peacefully with her family at her side at Bridgecreek Memory Care Center on Saturday morning January 6. Alice was born in Schaller, Iowa on September 2, 1913 to Frank and Lydia Truax. She graduated from Fonda High School. Alice married James A. Snyder on July 1, 1933 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. They lived in Waterloo, Iowa until 1948 when they moved with their family to Oregon living in the Crabtree and Lebanon areas. Alice was a member of the Lebanon First Baptist Church. She was an accomplished artist and seamstress. Her homes were always surrounded by her beautiful flowers. Alice loved family get-togethers and reunions and was well known for her delicious pies. Alice traveled extensively with her husband Jim throughout the United States and to Europe to visit son Bob, wife Jan and their sons Brian and Steve. She is survived by daughter: Fran Halsey and her husband Bill of Lebanon, Son: Bob and his wife, Jan of Denver, Colorado, and daughter-in-law: Dorothy Snyder of Lebanon; 8 grandsons, 17 great-grandchildren; brother: Dale Truax of Albany, and sister: Verna of New Orleans. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years James Snyder; son: James Lee and grandson: James Kent; brothers: George, Harold, Frank, and Joe and sisters: Edna, Emily and Lois. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 13, at the Lebanon First Baptist Church, Vine and Grove Streets with lunch following. Private burial will be in the Lebanon IOOF Cemetery. Contributions in her memory may be made to Macular Degeneration Foundation, First Baptist Church or a charity of choice and sent in care of Huston-Jost Funeral Home, 86 W. Grant St., Lebanon, Oregon 97355.
