Roger L. (Buck) Wilhoite, 78, passed away on March 27. He was the son of the late Clyde and Syble Burford Wilhoite. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, John C. and William O. and one sister, Esther Green. Survivors are his wife, Shirley Payne Wilhoite, two sons, Jerry N. and Steven L., a grandson, Brent, a stepdaughter, Melinda Wood and a step grandson, Chase Wood, a brother, Joe N. and a sister, Wanda Wilhoite Johnson. Mr. Wilhoite was a 30-year veteran of the Ky. State Police. He served two years in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. In his early adult life he was active in community affairs. He was president of the Georgetown Optimist Club, a member of the Northside Christian Church where he served as deacon and elder. Mr. Wilhoite was also the first President of The Blue Grass Christian Men's Association. After retiring from the KSP he was the Green's Keeper at Juniper Hills, Lake Barkley State Park and The Wekiva Golf Club in Longwood, Fla.. The last several years he has been a part-time employee of the parks and recreation department in Frankfort. He was active in sports most of his life. He played basketball at Georgetown College ("46 and "52), played fast pitch softball on five State Championship teams and was Blue Grass State singles champion in the grass nine wicket croquet tournament. He and his lifelong friend, Charles Shackelford, also won the doubles championship the same year. Visitation will be Sunday, March 30 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Clark Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 31 at Clark Funeral Home. Contributions may be made in memory of Lt. Roger L.
