Charles Sylvester Sr.

DRACUT - Charles W. Sylvester, Sr., 86, a resident of Dracut, died Saturday May 5th at Palm Manor Nursing Home in Chelmsford. He was the husband of the late Shirley U. (Taylor) Sylvester. <P> <P>He was born in Lowell on April 27, 1921, and was the son of the late Charles J. Sylvester and Sara (Barber) Sylvester. He received his education in Lowell schools. <P> <P>Mr. Sylvester served in the United States Navy during World War II and was stationed on the USS PC 473 and the USS Toucan. During this time he was awarded the America Area Ribbon, Asiatic- Pacific Area Ribbon, European-African Area Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Medal. He also served in the Unites States Army National Guard during the Korean War. <P> <P>He was a self employed builder for many years. <P> <P>He enjoyed Bingo, playing solitaire, watching game shows and camping. He was a member of the Welcome Chapter Camping Club in Derry, NH. <P> <P>He is survived by three sons Charles W. Sylvester Jr. of Dracut and his fiance Joanne Leahy of Lowell, Robert A. Sylvester and his wife Johnnie Ann of Nashua, and Joseph P. Sylvester and his wife Janet of Lowell; a daughter Linda Masse of Hudson, NH; eight grandchildren Kimberly Joyal and her husband Rene, Ralph Sylvester and his wife Christine, Robert Sylvester Jr. and his wife Amanda, Joseph P. Sylvester Jr. and his wife Jennifer, Steven M. Sylvester and his wife Erica, Randy A. Sylvester and his companion Pamela Crawford, Kristie Kingston and her husband Jesse, and Edward Masse III and his wife Karyn; seventeen great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law Frank and Theresa Taylor and Fred and Beatrice Taylor, all of Dracut; and several nieces and nephews. <P> <P>He was also the step son of the late Joseph Dufoe, and the father-in-law of the late Cheryl Sylvester and the late Edward Masse Jr. <P> <P>Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Thursday from 4 until 8p.m.. His funeral will be held from the funeral home on Friday at 9a.m., followed by his Funeral Mass at 10a.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Dracut. Burial in Tyngsboro Memorial Cemtery. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in his name to the American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress St., 5th Fl, Boston, MA 02110 or to Allegiance Hospice, 67 Middle St., Lowell, MA 01852.

DRACUT - Charles W. Sylvester, Sr., 86, a resident of Dracut, died Saturday May 5th at Palm Manor Nursing Home in Chelmsford. He was the husband of the late Shirley U. (Taylor) Sylvester.

He was born in Lowell on April 27, 1921, and was the son of the late Charles J. Sylvester and Sara (Barber) Sylvester. He received his education in Lowell schools.

Mr. Sylvester served in the United States Navy during World War II and was stationed on the USS PC 473 and the USS Toucan.
