Joan C. Fitzgerald (nee Kane), 80, Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Lifelong Volunteer of Niwot, formerly of the Kingsbridge section of "da Bronx", passed away peacefully after a short illness, Thursday, May 7, 2009, with family by her side.
Bunny, as she was affectionately known, most enjoyed spending time with her large family. She was born April 6, 1929 in Bronx, New York to John K. and Grace Adel (Brady) Kane. In addition to raising her own children, many of her grandchildren, she also impacted the lives of countless other children. She was a self-employed childcare Nanny with a degree in Motherhood.
Since moving to Colorado in 1997, Mrs. Fitzgerald was a member of the Rocky Mountain Christian Church where she became a minister in the Stevens Ministry.
She enjoyed a lifetime of service as a volunteer most recently for Boulder County Food Share, RSVP, Rocky Mountain MOPS, and Eldercare.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband, James Emmett Fitzgerald, whom she married September 9, 1952 in Yonkers, New York; as well as an infant son, Emmett Brian Fitzgerald. She is survived by her sister, Susan Rohde; her children, Raven DeLumiere, Darlene Martin, James Fitzgerald, Jodie Fitzgerald, Robin Barrett, Kenneth Fitzgerald, Tara FitzGerald, and Ian Fitzgerald and their spouses. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, and a legion of friends who will all mourn her passing.
Family and friends are invited to attend a service in celebration of her life to be held on Saturday, May 9, 2009, at 10:30 am at Rocky Mountain Christian Church in Niwot, Colorado. Interment and a memorial service will also be held in New York on June 13, 2009 at the Ferncliff Cemetery and Mausoleum on Secor Rd., in Hartsdale, New York.
