Jon Jones Gilbert, Arizona Obituary

Jon Jones

Former Bettendorf resident Jon E. Jones, 72, passed away on September 12th, 2010, at his home in Sun Lakes, AZ. Mr. Jones was born September 10th, 1938 in Davenport, IA, to Charles (Casey) and Inez Jones. Jon spent most of his life in Davenport and Bettendorf, IA and kept close contact with many lifelong friends who still reside there. Whether camping, shooting trap, attending wrestling meets or golfing, Jon most enjoyed leisure time with friends and family. He retired from Alcoa in 1990 after 30 years of service, and moved to Arizona with his wife Barbara in 1994 to be closer to his children and grandchildren. Mr. Jones served in the United State Army from 1958 to 1960, a fortunate time of peace for all U.S. Soldiers. While retired in Arizona he served for a time on the Maricopa Sheriff’s posse and volunteered with “Neighbors who care”. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Barbara; sons K.C. & P.T; younger brother Ken Jones; and Barbara’s children Judy, Karen, Mike, and Steve. Though he was a cancer survivor from the early 1990s, it was a second bout with cancer that proved too much for him and sent him home to be with the Lord. At his request, no local service will be held. But since we don’t have to listen to him anymore, friends and family will gather in Iowa after the “2011 Thaw”.
