Why order flowers through us?

Ordering through the funeral home helps ensure your order will be placed through a local flower shop with whom the funeral home has a personal and trusting relationship with. Through this service, you will be able to leave a longer message of support to the family via a card with the picture of your selection that will be included with your thoughtful gesture. As well as a photo of your arrangement and message will remain in perpetuity within this memorial website. This service also includes “Smart Select” whereby the store notifies you if your floral selection has already been selected by another sender, allowing you the opportunity to choose a different arrangement if you wish.

The price of these selections also include the funeral home caring for the flowers after the funeral and delivering them to the family, or various care facilities where they can be rearranged and enjoyed by others for a longer period.

Memorial Candles

A Perpetual Tribute

The solitude and quiet peace of a flickering candle has long been a symbol of remembrance. Each candle lit will remain lit within this memorial website for the period you select. Your thoughtful gesture will be captured both in the candle as well as listed in perpetuity within the tributes section.

Memorial Trees

Circle of Life

In today’s changing world with climate change and environment concerns, “Honoring a Life” allows for family and friends to plant a memorial tree in honor of their loved one and friend. The purchase of a tree creates a beautiful permanent record on the Honoring a Life website, www.honoringalife.org. Each tree is planted through the efforts of Forestry Services throughout North America who determine where the greatest needs for reforestation are. Once planted, the geographical location where the tree is planted will be added to the record. A beautiful card is also sent to the family signifying your thoughtful gesture.

Financial Support

A Helping Hand

The time surrounding a death can often bring unexpected final expenses for the family far beyond the funeral itself. We are pleased to offer the ability for friends and relatives to financially support the family during their time of loss as an alternative to flowers and other sympathy gestures.

Obituary for Margaret Anne Emek

Margaret Anne Emek (nee Phimister) passed away peacefully at Grace General Hospital on Thursday, September 16, 2010, one month after celebrating her 84th birthday. Mom will be forever missed and remembered by her four sons, Doug (Bev), Ross (Donna), Gordon (Loree) and Marsh. She will also be missed by her grandchildren Kristen (Brad), Matthew, Catherine, Brett (Danielle), Shauna, Krista (Claude) and Michael, as well as her great-grandchildren Carter, Catherine, Alexandra and Haley. She is also survived by her four sisters-in-law Grace Wylie, Gladys (George) Oelkers, Bertha Trow and Millie Stobart, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her husband Vic in 1985, her parents Elizabeth and Alexander (Beth and Sandy) Phimister, brothers Marsh and Alex, daughter-in-law Carol, and Dad’s parents John and Gertrude Emek. Mom was born in Winnipeg on August 13, 1926. She attended Principal Sparling School and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. After finishing high school, she worked at Manitoba Hospitalization (now Manitoba Health) for a number of years, as well as CKRC radio station. When her mother suffered a serious heart attack, she quit her job to stay at home and care for her. Later in life, she worked for a couple of years at Central Park Lodge as a nurse’s aide, but for the most part stayed at home to raise her four sons. Although she always said she wished she had had a daughter, nothing gave her greater pleasure than when we were all together, either in Winnipeg or at the family cottage. Mom came from a musical family so it was no surprise that music was a big part of her life. She joined St. Jude’s Anglican Church choir in 1945, where she met her future husband Vic. They were married on June 20, 1951. She took singing, piano and dance lessons, and continued to sing in church and other choirs for much of her life. She remained a faithful and active member of St. Jude’s Anglican Church and later St. Patrick and St. Jude’s Anglican Church, singing in the choir, playing for services, serving on Vestry and with the Anglican Church Women (ACW). She also played piano at West Park Manor once a month, assisting at Communion Services with Rev. Tony Harwood-Jones and Rev. John Moore. In 1990 she was part of a group led by Rev. Donna Mahussier that started what became known as the St. Patrick and St. Jude Senior’s Luncheon Outreach program. She remained active with her church and the senior’s lunches until the church closed in June 2001. Mom was usually a very organized person, and to no one’s surprise, she had written out what she wanted at her funeral a few years ago. In her directions, she also asked that we “thank her friends for their friendship and support over the years, and for driving her when she needed a ride”. She also sends her love and thanks to her nephew Don, for all that he did over the last few years. The last few years have been difficult for Mom, and her family also thanks everyone for their patience and support. Mom’s faith was very strong and she drew on that faith to keep her going in difficult times. Thanks Mom for being a terrific mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. You will forever be in our thoughts and we will miss you. Say hi to Dad for us.
