Sophie Kowalsky, 87, died peacefully on Monday September 11, 2006 at Stamford Hospital. Born May 5, 1919 in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late Julian and Veronica Usczinska Gumkowski. She was a retired supervisor having worked for Paper Novelty Manufacturing Co. for twenty years. She is survived by her loving daughter, Dottie Corbo of Stamford; a sister, Josephine Shuhl of Pound Ridge, NY; two brothers, Frank Gumkowski of Greenwich; and Joseph Gumkowski of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Walter Kowalsky. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday September 16, 2006 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Washington Blvd, Stamford, at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made to Office of Radio and Television, 15 Peach Orchard Road, Prospect, CT 06712. Arrangements are being handled by the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford. www.cognetta.com
