Obituary for Donald E. Witko

Rensselaer-Donald E. Witko, a cancer survivor of Rensselaer, passed away suddenly Wednesday July 11, 2007. He was born in Albany and has been a resident of Rensselaer since 1968. Don was a 1983 graduate of Siena College and worked as a supervisor for the State of New York, working for various departments for over 30 years. He was very active umpiring baseball and referring basketball and soccer and was a member of the Capitol District Umpires Association, Amateur Softball Association and Capitol District Girls Basketball Association. Don belonged to Golds Gym and won awards for power lifting. He delivered pizza for Jims Pizza in Rensselaer for over 30 years and loved the New York Yankees and his pets. Don was predeceased by his parents Edward and Florence Witko. He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer L., Aimee E. and Ceili R. Witko all of Rensselaer; brother of Edna (late Willie) Johnson and Nancy (Mark) Gapp. Uncle of Edward (Amy) Witko, Wendy Johnson and John Gapp; nephew of Marion (Bob) Boettcher. Predeceased also by his infant daughter Brenda M. Witko. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Funeral from the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer Monday morning at 9:00 and 10:00 at St. Josephs Church Third Street Rensselaer where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Sunday from 4-8 pm. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. Contributions in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society 260 Osborne Road Loudonville, NY 12211 or to the American Heart Association 440 New Karner Road Albany, NY 12205.
