Obituary for John J. Bowers Sr.

Selkirk-John J. Bowers Sr. age 77 years of Meliaks Trailer Park died Sunday October 5, 2003 at his residence. He was born in Albany and lived in Rensselaer before moving to Selkirk over 20 years ago. Mr. Bowers was employed with Teamsters Local #294 and was a life member of the James Hill Hook and Ladder Co. in Rensselaer. He was a US Navy veteran of WW II and a life member of the Gerald ONeil American Legion Post #1683 in Rensselaer. He enjoyed happy hour at Alteris Restaurant, golf, the NY Giants and NY Yankees. He was husband of the late Margaret L. Herbert Bowers. Father of John (Joe) Bowers Jr. of Latham, Catherine (Katie) Levine of Albany, Deborah Girgenti of Rensselaer and Margaret Fernald of Cherryfield ME. Brother of Ruth Miller of Rensselaer and the late George Bowers, Esther Bowers, Olga Dambrose and Edith Jesco. Grandfather of Nicole Roberts, Shelley Brown, Anthony Girgenti, Crystal Hansen Amanda Bowers, Stephen Fernald, Susan Ryan and Wendy Cshors. Also survived by several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Funeral from the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer Wednesday morning at 9:00. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. Interment in Calvary Cemetery Glenmont.
