Cyril Zelenak

Cyril A. Zelenak, 85, of Hummelstown, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010, in the M.S. Hershey Medical Center. Born in Windber, PA, on August 17, 1924, he was the son of the late John and Anna Penko Zelenak. Cyril retired as an electrician from the New Cumberland Army Depot; and was an air craft electrician at the former Olmsted Air Force Base, Middletown. He was an U.S. Navy and Air Force veteran having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. Cyril was a member of St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, Hershey. He was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1687, Hummelstown. Cyril was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed learning about history, and liked animals. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Koshute Zelenak whom he married on January 7, 1950; two sons, Stephen Zelenak of Ellicott City, MD, and Thomas M. Zelenak husband of Constance L. Speraw Zelenak of Palmyra; one daughter, Janice M. Turchin wife of Glen R. Turchin, Sr. of Windermere, FL; four grandchildren, Megan M. Zelenak of Palmyra, and Sarah E. Turchin, Glen R. Turchin, Jr. and Matthew E. Turchin all of Windermere, FL; and several nieces and nephews. Cyril was preceded in death by his twin daughters, Elizabeth Ann and Susan; by four brothers, John, Josef, Andrew and George; and by two sisters, Anna Zelenak and Mary Urban. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, March 8, 2010, at 11 AM in St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, 359 West Areba Avenue, Hershey. Interment with military honors will be in the Hershey Cemetery. Friends will be received for a viewing Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown.
