Dorothy McElroy Angel, a life long resident of Las Vegas, NM passed away in Albuquerque on Friday. She was preceded in death by her parents: Dewey and Martina McElroy; a half brother, George McElroy; and two aunts: Eugenia and Ignacia Martinez. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Ray Angel Jr. of the family home; a daughter, Joanne Angel of Albuquerque, NM; two grandchildren, Naina and Darius Panthaki of Albuquerque; a great granddaughter, Layla Marie Panthaki of Albuquerque; two sisters, Irene Gotti of Albuquerque, NM and Viney Geoffrion of Los Alamos, NM, her dog Storrie and numerous nieces and nephews She was born in Las Vegas, NM on February 24, 1924 to the late Dewey and Martina McElroy She graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1942 followed by St. Joseph’s Nursing School in Denver, Colorado in 1945. As a Registered Nurse, Dorothy worked for many doctors including Dr. Dellinger, Dr. Terr, and Dr. Beatty. She also worked as a nurse at the New Mexico State Hospital and St. Anthony’s Hospital. She loved her patients and the people of Las Vegas in general where she was know for her random acts of kindness and generosity. She was strong hearted, smart lady who always wore a smile. She was a very active member of San Juan Argonne Post #1547 Women’s Auxiliary, and a longtime member of the Immaculate Conception Church. Cremation has taken place and all services will be held from the Immaculate Conception Church with a rosary on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. Father George V. Salazar will celebrate the Mass. The interment will follow at a later date in the Santa Fe National Cemetery. The family has requested memorials be made to the Nursing Program at Luna Community College, 366 Luna Drive, Las Vegas, NM 87701.
